Automation group Kuka establishes new software and digital business segment
by David Fleschen
The automation company KUKA has launched a new business segment focused on software and digital solutions. With the introduction of KUKA Digital, the long-established German firm, recognized for its industrial robots and automation systems, aims to enhance its digital and software capabilities. The new segment's objective is to support the complete digitalization of machines and systems used in production, from initial 3D simulations to connectivity, data analysis, and artificial intelligence applications.
Software has become increasingly important in the field of mechanical engineering. Tasks that were once handled mechanically are now often addressed through electronics and software. "KUKA Digital allows us to broaden our offerings and position ourselves for growth in the expanding digital market. Our customers need faster, more efficient, and simpler digital solutions," says Quirin Goerz, KUKA Chief Information Officer and CEO of the newly established digital division. The initiative seeks to extend KUKA's digital expertise beyond robots and automation systems, advancing digitalization across the entire production process.
KUKA’s digital segment aims to provide a comprehensive portfolio of software solutions applicable to a wide range of production machines, irrespective of manufacturer. This includes creating interfaces, establishing data standards, integrating cloud technologies, and offering consulting services. To achieve these goals, KUKA plans to collaborate with a network of partners as part of an ecosystem approach.
