Hydnum Steel and Euroports collaborate in the development of logistics solutions
by David Fleschen
Hydnum Steel and Euroports have entered into an agreement aimed at creating an efficient logistics network for the transportation, storage, and distribution of steel coils produced at Hydnum Steel’s Puertollano plant.
Hydnum Steel, Spain’s first green steel plant, and Euroports, a prominent European port and logistics operator, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on logistics solutions designed to optimize the steel supply chain across Europe. This partnership will focus on developing a sustainable logistics network to improve the transportation, storage, and distribution of steel coils. Additionally, the agreement includes logistics support for essential raw materials for steelmaking, such as ferrous scrap, green metallics, and iron ore from various locations. Euroports’ experience in port infrastructure management and logistics services will be key to supporting Hydnum Steel’s needs, which include the import of raw materials and the export of green steel coils.
Key Objectives of the MoU:
- Supply Chain Optimization: Implementing solutions to reduce time and costs in transporting steel products from production to customers.
- Sustainability: Developing logistics practices that reduce the carbon footprint through multimodal transportation and clean technologies.
- Operational Efficiency: Ensuring better coordination between production and distribution to provide faster and more reliable deliveries across European markets.
- Growth and Expansion: Enabling access to new markets and customers via a well-structured logistics network.
Fernando Pessanha, Chief Strategy Officer at Hydnum Steel, highlighted that the agreement will enhance their ability to deliver green steel products efficiently and sustainably, while also addressing key raw material logistics needs. He noted that Euroports' expertise and infrastructure will play a critical role in achieving these goals.
Carlos Soleto, MED Business Development Manager at Euroports, emphasized that this agreement reflects Euroports’ expertise in port and logistics operations for the steel industry. He stated that their integrated solutions will support Hydnum Steel’s competitiveness in Europe while promoting innovation and sustainability within the steel supply chain.
