World Steel Association: New leadership and new members

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has announced the election of its new Executive Board of Directors for the 2024/2025 term. The elected officers will serve a one-year term in guiding the organization. The Executive Board is composed of key industry leaders:

  • Chair: Thachat Viswanath Narendran, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Steel
  • Vice-Chair: Uğur Dalbeler, CEO, Çolakoğlu Metalurji A.Ş.
  • Vice-Chair: Leon Topalian, President & CEO, Nucor Corporation
  • Treasurer: Mark Vassella, Managing Director & CEO, BlueScope Steel Limited
  • Chair of worldstainless: Akihiko Inoue, Representative Director & President, NIPPON STEEL Stainless Steel Corporation

In addition, worldsteel’s Executive Committee for 2024/2025 was also confirmed. The committee members represent a range of global steel producers and include prominent figures from major steel companies:

  • Abdulqader Al-Mubarak, CEO, Saudi Iron & Steel Company (HADEED)
  • David Burritt, President & CEO, United States Steel Corporation
  • In Hwa Chang, Chairman, POSCO Holdings
  • Uğur Dalbeler, CEO, Çolakoğlu Metalurji A.Ş.

  • HU Wangming, Chairman, China Baowu Steel Group Corporation Limited

The Board of Members also announced the addition of several new regular members:

  • Ghadir International Development and Industries and Mines Company (Iran), represented by Seyed Abutorab Fazel
  • Libyan Iron & Steel Company (Libya), represented by Mohamed Abdulmalak Elfighi
  • Optimus Steel, LLC (United States), represented by Luis Barrenechea
  • Rustavi Metallurgical Plant (Georgia), represented by Igor Korytko
  • Saarstahl AG (Germany), represented by Stefan Rauber

Additionally, the organization welcomed the Al-Hadeed Foundation for Economic Development (Iraq) as an affiliated member, represented by Ammar Raheem Abdullah Al-Saedi.
