AISI: US steel shipments experience decline in September 2024

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has announced that U.S. steel mills shipped 7,083,141 net tons in September 2024. This represents a 1.2 percent decrease compared to the 7,169,942 net tons shipped in September 2023. On a month-to-month basis, shipments fell by 2.9 percent from the 7,292,562 net tons shipped in August 2024.
Year-to-date figures also show a downward trend. Through the first nine months of 2024, steel shipments totaled 65,296,115 net tons, marking a 3.6 percent decline from the 67,734,001 net tons shipped during the same period in 2023.
Examining the performance of specific product categories year-to-date, shipments of cold rolled sheet increased by 4 percent. In contrast, corrosion-resistant steel shipments decreased by 1 percent, while hot rolled steel shipments dropped by 5 percent.
