US has raised import duties on Chinese goods from 10% to 25%

by David Fleschen

As announced, the US has raised import duties on Chinese goods in the $ 200 billion range from 10% to 25%. The higher tariffs apply immediately. China has announced retaliatory measures. The trade dispute between the US and China will probably go to the next round. A successful trade agreement has thus become highly unlikely, at least in the short term, even if the talks continue today. But it is unclear how things will continue afterwards. The associated uncertainty is likely to weigh on metal prices.
