ThyssenKrupp announces closure of Duisburg plant
by David Fleschen
The Thyssenkrupp steel board is preparing to close the Thyssenkrupp heavy plate plant in Duisburg, which is currently employing around 800 people. This was stated in a statement issued by the Thyssenkrupp steel board to employees at the Hüttenheim site, that was quoted by various media outlets. "In recent months, despite an intensive search, no buyer could be found who would continue the business unit," wrote Thyssenkrupp division head Bernhard Osburg and his board colleagues. "Following the rejection by Saarstahl AG of a takeover of the heavy plate business unit, we will begin to initiate the closure of the plant by September 30, 2021 at the latest."
