Tenova to supply hot dip galvanizing line for PT Tata Metal Lestari, Indonesia

by David Fleschen

Tenova has signed a contract with PT Tata Metal Lestari, a manufacturer of painted and coated steel products in Indonesia, for the supply of a new hot dip galvanizing line. The line will be installed at Tata Metal Lestari’s Sadang Plant in Cijaya, Kabupaten Purwakarta, Indonesia, and will have an annual production capacity of 250,000 tons.

The new line will be capable of processing Al-Zn, Al-Zn-Mg, and Zn-Al-Mg coated coils. The project includes engineering, supply, and supervision of a complete set of equipment, including advanced level 2 electrical and automation systems developed by Tenova Italimpianti, a well-established brand in metal processing technologies.

The facility is designed to ensure high-quality coated steel products with optimal surface quality. The cleaning section will remove surface contaminants, while the furnace will maintain controlled atmospheric conditions to prevent surface deterioration. Air knife systems will further contribute to surface quality, and an inline skin pass mill will enhance the final coated surface’s uniformity and shape.

Stephanus Koeswandi, CEO of PT Tata Metal Lestari, emphasized the strategic importance of the new line in strengthening the company’s position in the market.

“This project will establish PT Tata Metal Lestari as a leading producer of aluminum, zinc, and magnesium alloy-coated steel coils in Indonesia and a reference for the Western market,” Koeswandi stated.

Giuseppe Zanzi, Chief Representative Officer for Southeast Asia and Oceania at Tenova, highlighted the technology and flexibility of the new line.

“The design of Tata Metal Lestari’s galvanizing line integrates the latest technology for producing Al-Zn, Al-Zn-Mg, and Zn-Al-Mg coated coils with efficient, customized processes. The new line ensures high-quality and stable production while providing flexibility for various alloy coatings,” Zanzi explained.
