Tata Steel Nederland (TSN) has announced the appointment of Akash Latchman as Chief Project and Engineering Officer (CPEO), effective November 18, 2024. Latchman, an experienced leader in large-scale industrial transformation projects, will join TSN’s board as its fifth member, where he will oversee the technical implementation of Tata Steel's Green Steel initiative at the IJmuiden plant in the Netherlands.

Latchman’s appointment marks a strategic step forward for TSN’s ambitious sustainability goals. As CPEO, he will work closely with teams from both the Netherlands and India, who are already engaged in planning and preparation for the Green Steel project. His experience leading similar industrial projects globally is expected to support TSN’s commitment to advancing sustainable steel production.

“We are pleased to welcome Akash as the CPEO of Tata Steel Nederland,” stated T.V. Narendran, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Steel Limited and Chair of the Tata Steel Nederland Supervisory Board. “His global experience in managing large-scale projects will be invaluable as we drive the transformation at our IJmuiden site.”

Latchman expressed enthusiasm about joining TSN during a pivotal phase in its sustainability journey. “I am excited to be part of Tata Steel Nederland as it moves toward a more sustainable future. I look forward to working with colleagues to ensure a smooth and effective transition,” he said.

Previously, Latchman served at Sasol, a global chemicals and energy company headquartered in South Africa, where he oversaw major industrial projects across North America and Africa.

With this appointment, Tata Steel Nederland’s board will comprise five members: Hans van den Berg (CEO), Hans Turkesteen (CFO), Akash Latchman (CPEO), Tom Eussen (Managing Director, Tata Steel IJmuiden), and Gunilla Saltin (Managing Director, Tata Steel Downstream Europe).
