Steeltec AG concludes consultation process with reduced redundancies
by David Fleschen
Steeltec AG, part of the Swiss Steel Group, has successfully completed its consultation process at its Emmenbrücke production site. The company confirmed the reduction of 130 positions as previously announced, with the number of redundancies lowered from the anticipated 80 to a maximum of 50 employees.
Initiated in mid-November 2024, the consultation process was carried out transparently and collaboratively with the employee committee, social partners, and relevant authorities. The primary goal was to explore viable solutions to address economic challenges and ensure the long-term sustainability of the Emmenbrücke site.
Originally, the workforce reduction plan involved terminating approximately 80 employees. However, constructive dialogue with the employee committee and social partners led to a decrease in this figure. Measures such as natural attrition and organizational restructuring have reduced the need for redundancies to a maximum of 50 employees. The existing social plan will remain in effect to support affected employees.
During the consultation, the temporary reduction in grid charges for the steel and aluminum industries was also discussed. Steeltec AG and the Swiss Steel Group acknowledge the Swiss National Council's efforts to support the sector and are monitoring the decision's implications. However, it is considered too early to draw definitive conclusions.
The personnel adjustments will be implemented in the first quarter of 2025. Steeltec AG remains confident that these measures will strengthen the Emmenbrücke site and support the company in achieving its long-term objectives.
