Statement by RWI President Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Christoph M. Schmidt on the US presidential elections

"The outcome of the election is unclear, and a final result could be a long time in coming. The USA is thus facing difficult weeks and perhaps even months. This is also a difficult situation for US trading partners like Germany, which is characterized by great uncertainty. Accordingly, economic players will probably be very cautious and wait and see how the situation develops. It would be good for the USA - and for us - to clarify as quickly as possible who will lead the country over the next four years.
