Schuler delivers Smartline EV 3.8 to Feintool
by Hans Diederichs
The Feintool Group has ordered a high speed press for the manufacture of interlocked electric motor cores. Because the laminations’ geometry has become increasingly complex, Schuler’s Smartline EV 3.8 features a longer table for the necessary additional blanking operations. The press is being produced in Dalian, China, and will be shipped to Feintool’s recently opened production site in Taicang at the east coast of the People’s Republic by the summer of 2020.
To produce highly efficient electric motors, the Smartline EV 3.8 can process a strip width of up to 600 mm and a material thickness of down to 0.2 mm. Schuler has developed a penetration depth control (PDC) to provide a perfect positioning as well as repeat accuracy of the slide. As a result, the die lifetime can be increased by up to 30%. The machine can run the full speed of 250 strokes per minute with the full press force of 3,150 kN and the maximum upper die weight of up to four tons. At the same time, the press is harmonized so well there is no need for a special foundation.
With its acquisition of the German company Stanz- und LaserTechnik Jessen GmbH, Feintool Group expanded its strategic areas of business alongside fineblanking and forming by developing the market for electric vehicle components. Now the newly acquired technical expertise is also expanded to the worldwide biggest EV market, China.
