PT Krakatau Steel (Persero) Tbk, in Indonesia, has placed an order with SMS group for a state-of-the-art Electrics and Automation system for their hot strip mill no.1. The company, publicly listed and state-owned, operates its plant in Cilegon, Banten, Indonesia.
Hot strip mill no.1, originally constructed by SMS group in 1983, has been a significant part of PT Krakatau Steel's operations. The hot strip mill no.1 has one roughing mill stand with edger, six finishing mill stands and two down-coilers with annual production capacity designed for 2.4 million tons.
This new order follows the successful commissioning of hot strip mill no. 2 by SMS, highlighting the strong partnership between PT Krakatau Steel and SMS, and PT Krakatau Steel's ongoing trust in the cutting-edge technology provided by SMS.
Under this order, SMS will deliver an advanced X-Pact® electric and automation system, focusing primarily on level 1 and level 2 automation for the entire mill. This includes a new main and auxiliary drive system, as well as a low-voltage power distribution system for the finishing mill. The X-Pact® Vision HMI (Human-Machine Interface) with its advanced visualization concept and integrated faceplate technology will provide seamless operator guidance and enhanced maintenance flexibility. State-of-the-art level 2 mathematical models will further contribute to the improvement of the end product quality.
