Paris Air Show: DEW and Ugitech provide lift
by David Fleschen
There is particular focus on Additive Manufacturing this year at Deutsche Edelstahlwerke (DEW) and Ugitech. A method that is also applied when it comes to producing components for the aerospace industry. Together the sister companies of the SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH Group they will therefore be represented at the Paris Air Show at Le Bourget airport from 16th to 23rd June (Hall 4, Stand C4). The show, which is among the most important aerospace trade fairs in the world, is not only a home match for the French business unit, Ugitech, but also the ideal place to present its range of products and services that meet the requirements of the aerospace industry.
So that our modern flying machines can safely take off and stay in the air, their components must be extremely light and become even lighter in future whilst attaining higher strengths. The prerequisite is special steel in first class quality. In this respect, Ugitech and DEW notably stand for top quality at competitive prices and for quick availability of their products due to efficient supply chains worldwide. The fact that special steel development is constantly advancing in this area is demonstrated by the wide field of additive manufacturing among other things. At DEW this topic is currently omnipresent. Unlike mechanical manufacturing processes such as milling or turning, additive manufacturing builds up the component layer by layer. The steel experts produce more than 200 materials using powder metallurgy. A requirement for additive manufacturing is a high quality feedstock powder, which DEW provides as part of its Printdur portfolio with a wide range of atomised metal powders based on iron, nickel or cobalt. For another promising technology: Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing, Ugitech offers a wide range of UGIWAM® wires well suited for parts of big dimensions. The benefits include high flexibility in component design as well as a large product variety. Besides sectors like medical technology and toolmaking, the method plays an important role especially in the aerospace industry.
