Metso: New roll monitoring solution to enhance grinding efficiency

by David Fleschen

Metso Corporation announced the launch of HPGRSense™, a new roll monitoring solution designed to optimize grinding efficiency by providing continuous monitoring of its HRC™e high-pressure grinding rolls (HPGR).

The HPGRSense™ system offers a unique approach to roll inspection and wear measurement, delivering real-time insights into the condition of HPGR rolls without requiring process interruptions for inspections. The stand-alone system uses an array of sensors combined with advanced analytics to detect anomalies, measure wear, and support predictive maintenance.

According to Stefan Sakendorf, Director of HRC at Metso, “HPGRSense™ provides operators with a safe and remote view of the rolls’ condition during operation. This enhanced visibility allows operators to better understand the state of the rolls, respond promptly to potential damage, predict service life, and optimize spare stock management, ultimately helping maintain productivity.”

Building on Established Technology

Metso first introduced its HRC™ high-pressure grinding rolls in 2014, aimed at enhancing comminution processes in mineral processing plants. The HRC™ technology is recognized for improving energy efficiency, extending wear life, and boosting throughput. The latest iteration, HRC™e, retains these benefits while offering improved design and serviceability. The new HPGRSense™ solution further advances the technology by enabling safer, remote, and data-driven roll maintenance.
