by David Fleschen

Metso has announced the introduction of its upgraded Larox® PF 60 series pressure filter during the opening ceremony of a new machining unit at its Filtration Technology Center in Lappeenranta, Finland, on September 11, 2024.

“The latest version of the Larox® PF 60 series represents a significant advancement in tower filter technology. It enhances safety, process efficiency, and dewatering capacity for applications in mining and other process industries. The filter’s new technological features include full automation for flexible operation across process variations and adaptability for different plate pack configurations, which ensures consistent and homogenous filter cakes with efficient solids wash,” said Jussi Venäläinen, Vice President of Metso’s Filtration business line.

As part of Metso’s Planet Positive initiative, the Larox® PF 60 series pressure filter offers significant environmental benefits by reducing water and oil consumption by up to 90% and 75%, respectively, and lowering electric power requirements by 25%. Its compact, open design requires less floor space and improves maintenance accessibility. The filter’s structure has also been updated to meet modern seismic standards. Metso supports the filter with a comprehensive service portfolio, including remote support, to ensure optimal performance throughout its lifecycle.

New Machining Unit Expands Capacity and Enhances Quality

“The investment in our new machining unit at the Filtration Technology Center aligns with the development of the Larox® PF 60 series and underscores our commitment to providing our customers with responsible, high-performance filtration technology. The highly automated unit significantly increases our production capacity and enables us to manufacture high-quality filter components more safely and sustainably,” said Tero Tiainen, Director of Filters Manufacturing at Metso.

In addition to manufacturing advanced filters for various industries, Metso’s Filtration Technology Center is home to the Dewatering Technology Center (DTC), which focuses on solid-liquid separation. Metso has conducted over 14,000 filtration tests and delivered more than 5,000 filters for diverse applications worldwide.
