Mechanical engineering NRW: February not yet under corona influence
by Hans Diederichs
In February 2020, the order intake recorded a change of minus 4 percent compared to the previous year. Domestic orders were up 8 percent, while 10 percent fewer orders came from abroad. Orders from the eurozone increased by 23 percent, while new orders from outside the eurozone fell by 21 percent.
The three-month comparison December 2019 to February 2020 showed a minus of 5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Domestic orders showed an upward trend of 6 percent. Foreign orders fell by 10 percent, with the rest of Europe up 18 percent and the non-EU area down 19 percent.
February is still largely free from the effects of the corona pandemic. Only the declining orders from outside Europe seem to be affected by the corona effects in China. At present, the North Rhine-Westphalian mechanical and plant engineering industry is still in the phase before the storm in terms of order intake.
