Less CO2 Emissions

ArcelorMittal and natural gas supplier VNG Handel & Vertrieb are in future cooperating to make the production of steel products at the Eisenhüttenstadt site more sustainable.

By 2030, ArcelorMittal, as the world's largest steel and mining company in Europe, aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 30 percent and to achieve climate-neutral production by 2050.

ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt  is I (AM Eisenhüttenstadt) initially planning to reduce CO2 emissions in steel production from 2021 onwards by converting the blast furnace by around five percent per year by converting the blast furnace. To achieve this natural gas will in the future be used in the blast furnace to reduce the need for coal. This will also contribute to lower energy costs. The conversion of the furnace is scheduled completed by mid-2021, with the cost of this investment amounting to around four million euros.

As part of the Group's climate strategy, ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt intends – also together with VNG Handel & Vertrieb - to blend CO2-neutral hydrogen in a later step as soon as it is available in sufficient quantities and at economic cost.
