Kloeckner Metals to launch advanced laser blanking line in Queretaro facility

by David Fleschen

Kloeckner Metals has announced plans to install a Schuler coil-fed Laser Blanking Line at its expanded Queretaro, Mexico facility. Set to begin installation in late 2025 and commence production by mid-2026, the new equipment will be housed in a recently completed 93,700-square-foot addition to the site.

The advanced laser blanking line aims to enhance metal blanking capabilities, offering improved flexibility, efficiency, and cost savings. The project underscores Kloeckner’s ongoing investment in innovative metal processing technologies to better serve its customers.

The initiative is a collaboration with BWD Technologies LLC (BWD), a recognized leader in laser blanking solutions. Leveraging BWD’s technical expertise and intellectual property, Kloeckner aims to deliver high-quality, precision-engineered products.

Features and Benefits of the New Laser Blanking Line:

  • Cost Efficiency: The laser blanking line removes the need for traditional die-building, trials, tool maintenance, and storage, reducing overhead costs.
  • Streamlined Production: Engineering changes can be implemented in real time, shortening production cycles and eliminating lengthy die design and testing phases. Once materials are available, production can begin with precise tolerances and uninterrupted workflows.
  • Material Savings: Advanced nesting capabilities minimize waste, lowering material costs.
  • Versatility and Capacity: The line can handle exposed and unexposed aluminum and steel in various shapes and configurations, with thicknesses ranging from 0.02 to 0.10 inches, widths up to 74 inches, and lengths up to 175 inches. It has an annual production capacity exceeding six million blanks, depending on specifications.

The Queretaro facility will also benefit from access to BWD’s high-speed coil-fed laser blanking capacity in Dearborn, Michigan, allowing Kloeckner to meet customer needs seamlessly across its 55 facilities in the U.S. and Mexico.

This development represents a significant step in Kloeckner Metals' commitment to advancing its technological capabilities and delivering tailored solutions to its clients in the metalworking industry.
