by David Fleschen
Gunnar Groebler is taking over the position Chairman of the Executive Board and Chief Executive Officer from Prof. Dr.-Ing. Heinz Jörg Fuhrmann who retired upon expiry of his employment contract, as planned.
Gunnar Groebler has been a member of the Executive Board since May 17, 2021: “I am looking forward to my tasks and challenges within the Salzgitter Group. In recent weeks, I took the opportunity of meeting many colleagues and engaging in conversation on the occasion of visits to various subsidiaries. Thanks to the fine work done in the past, and despite the huge challenges presented by the pandemic, the company now stands on a firm footing for which I would like to thank the entire team, but especially Prof. Fuhrmann.
Our aim is now to further the development of the group as a future-orientated steel and technology group. Special emphasis will be placed on SALCOS® – Salzgitter Low CO2-Steelmaking, Groebler explained. “This transformation project aimed at low CO2 steel production makes Salzgitter AG a leader in the steel industry. We will be moving swiftly to reinforce our excellent position. We have already taken the next steps through construction work commencing on our µdral-DRI plant in Salzgitter.”
Prior to joining Salzgitter AG, Gunnar Groebler held executive positions at Vattenfall, an energy group with international operations, most recently as a member of the Executive Group Management in charge of the Business Area Wind.
