The board of the German Steel Association (WV Stahl) has appointed Gunnar Groebler, CEO of Salzgitter AG, as the new honorary president, effective as of September 9. He succeeds Bernhard Osburg, who has stepped down from his position.
“I would like to thank the board of WV Stahl for their trust and I look forward to shaping the future of the German steel industry in this role. Bernhard Osburg has done important and impactful work under the current, extremely challenging market conditions and has provided valuable guidance. My task now is to do everything possible to maintain the immediate competitiveness of our industry and to drive forward its future viability,” said Gunnar Groebler.
In his farewell remarks, Bernhard Osburg stated: “It has been an honor to represent the steel industry in Germany as president of WV Stahl. This industry has been close to my heart for the past 25 years, and the association is a focused political representative for our pressing issues, which cannot afford distractions. I thank the entire team at WV Stahl for their professional support during my term and the management for the excellent collaboration. I wish Gunnar Groebler great success and a steady hand in his new role.”
