The acclaimed "Lilla Integralen" apartment building by Sandellsandberg Architects Stockholm, built with a sustainable, organically coated GreenCoat® steel facade by SSAB, is shortlisted for the 2019 World Architecture Festival (WAF) Award in the Completed Buildings : Housing "been added.
"Lilla Integralen" is an elegant semi-detached house with four residential units on three floors and a roof terrace. It is located in the new development area Vallastaden of the Swedish town of Linköping. In the first construction phase of the residential quarter Vallastaden, 1,000 apartments were built, which were planned by 40 different architects.
Inspired by old industrial buildings, Lilla Integralen has a structure encased in a sinusoidal profiled façade of organic coated steel in Metallic Silver. The metallic silver tone creates beautiful light reflections in this relatively densely built quarter of Vallastaden.
For GreenCoat® organically coated steel, Sandellsandberg Arkitekter chose primarily for its color consistency and high resistance to corrosion, UV radiation and scratches. This ensures that the building can be used for many generations. Sustainability was thus the main reason for the choice of materials.
"Architecture today is not just about designing, but also about shaping sustainable societies and a better world." That's why we have to try to find other, more sustainable solutions, "explains Sandellsandberg Arkitekter, Thomas Sandell , organic coated GreenCoat® steel for a durable premium construction product that is also environmentally friendly, was evident. "
In addition to its outstanding features and aesthetics, most GreenCoat® products also have an organic biotechnology coating (BT), replacing much of the fossil crude oil with Swedish vegetable oil. This patented coating technology is currently unique in the market.
In recognition of this unusual design, Lilla Integralen has been shortlisted for the 2019 World Architecture Festival (WAF) Award in the Completed Buildings: Housing category. The building was also nominated for the Swedish Architecture Award Plåtpriset 2019.
The winners of the 2019 WAF Awards will be announced as part of the World Architecture Festival, which will be held December 4-6 in Amsterdam.
