German Steel Federation supports siding charter

The steel industry in Germany depends on reliable and efficient transport infrastructures. Around half of the steel industry's traffic is already carried by rail, which is an environmentally friendly mode of transport. The aim of transport policy is to shift more traffic to rail. For this to succeed, framework conditions are needed that promote, among other things, sidings and customer-oriented access points. Now that network access has been steadily reduced over decades, 35 associations from industry and commerce are calling for a trend reversal in the so-called "siding charter" in order to achieve transport and climate policy goals.

Associations and organisations from industry, trade, logistics and public institutions have drawn up a siding charter which is intended to focus transport policy discussions more strongly on the essential key function of siding, customer-oriented access points and regional railway infrastructures. The aim is to be able to offer the market efficient and economically feasible transport systems in combined transport and wagonload traffic.
