German know-how at METALEX 2019 in great demand

For the first time, VDW presents itself in Asia / Germany as the first partner country at the international trade fair for tool and metalworking machinery
The German participation in this year's METALEX, the international trade fair for tool and metalworking machines, in Bangkok was a complete success: 48 top German companies from the metalworking and machine tool industry presented themselves as a partner country of the trade fair from 20 to 23 November 2019. Numerous machines and exhibits demonstrated the motto of the industry performance show "German High Tech in Metal Working" on an exhibition area of 1,250 square meters.
Exhibitor President Peter Weber, Managing Director of Gebr. Heller Maschinenfabrik GmbH, took stock: "METALEX is an established event. With the partner country participation and industry performance show, the companies had an excellent opportunity to present themselves in the ASEAN region. It is very pleasing that 48 companies represented Germany this year, 30 more than in the previous year. "
Gerald Mies, Managing Director of FFG Europe & Americas, summed up the participation: "For us it was the right decision to present ourselves in the context of German participation. We have reached our goal of finding a local dealer. The German presence at the fair is an important signal - also because METALEX has a great impact on Southeast Asia. "

With 100,475 visitors and 970 exhibitors, METALEX continues the success of previous years. Suttisak Wilanan, Deputy General Manager of Reed Tradex Co., Ltd. confirmed: "Our visitors want to see innovations and new developments, because the market is increasingly shifting towards highly technologised products. With the German participation, we were fully able to do justice to this and noticed a significant increase in the number of visitors, especially among buyers. "
Germany was the first partner country of the largest metalworking fair in the ASEAN region in 2019. Thomas Bareiß, Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, accompanied the German participation and said: "For Germany, it is a great honor to be the first partner country of METALEX. This reflects the bond and good relations between Germany and Thailand. I am pleased that the German machine tool manufacturers have been able to present their skills and products in such a promising market through the industry performance show. "
Trade visitors to the special show with a forum on the standardized umati interface got a glimpse of top-quality German technology. There, German manufacturers demonstrated how simple and uncomplicated umati can be used. Connected were three machines from DMG Mori, Heller and Trumpf, which produce live at the exhibition center in Bangkok. In addition, there were other machines from umati partners outside the exhibition center. The data was retrieved via a demo dashboard on the umati stand of the Association of German Machine Tool Factories (VDW), the www.umati.app. The communication between the machine and the data hub as well as between software applications and data hub takes place via the OPC UA client-server model via VPN tunneling. Once again, Showcase showed that umati can connect a variety of machines and software under the very special conditions of a live demonstration at a trade show.
