EU trade strategy: Signal for more trade policy self-confidence
by Hans Diederichs
A communication on the reorientation of trade policy
"The EU needs effective instruments to be able to respond appropriately to the changing conditions in international trade and to protect its companies from market distortions. The European Commission has correctly recognized this and announced in its trade policy strategy more self-confidence and fortitude. The steel industry in Germany and Europe has for some time been confronted with enormous challenges in foreign trade policy, including in particular unfair trade practices. The EU commission's new trade policy strategy is therefore an important signal for companies in the steel industry, but it must now also be implemented consistently."
