EU steel distributors remain cautious amid shifting price expectation

by David Fleschen

Steel distributors in the European Union are navigating through a period of weak demand, concludes the October EUROMETAL Market Sentiment Survey, which collected insights from 251 respondents.

The survey results indicate that, as 2024 comes to a close, the EU steel and steel products distribution sector is maintaining a cautious stance. Although current activity levels remain stable, respondents expect a potential easing of activity in the future.

According to the EUROMETAL survey, market participants do not plan to significantly increase inventory levels. Instead, they are focused on maintaining or slightly reducing stock in anticipation of lower demand.

The EUROMETAL survey also revealed a change in price expectations. Some respondents foresee price stabilization or slight increases. Unlike previous months, when sentiment leaned downward, the October survey shows a more balanced or somewhat positive outlook.
