Endress+Hauser establishes new global logistics operations center
by David Fleschen
The Endress+Hauser Group will in future manage its global logistics network from its own Logistics Operations Center in Ireland. A small team of logistics experts will shorten decision-making paths in day-to-day operations and facilitate the smooth and sustainable movement of goods.
The task of the Global Logistics Operations Centre is to ensure the smooth operation of the worldwide logistics chains. The Group's global transport network has become increasingly regionalised in recent years, and the portfolio of carriers and forwarding agents has been expanded. "Global supply and distribution networks require quick decisions to be made in the same space," emphasises Thorsten Wilkening, Head of Corporate Logistics. Oliver Blum, Corporate Director Supply Chain, adds: "Our concern is to make all customers satisfied, also in logistics and transport."
With the establishment of the Global Logistics Operations Center in Ireland, Endress+Hauser is bringing the operational control of logistics processes back into the company. Previously, a service partner was responsible for this. The first employees were welcomed in December 2021; in March, the Global Logistics Operations Center started operations with a strength of 15 employees.
"With this step, we want to improve transparency and customer satisfaction," emphasises Thorsten Wilkening. Oliver Blum expects faster innovation cycles as a result of the change: "By managing global logistics in-house, we can be more agile and make more stringent decisions. We can increase the level of service and strengthen our focus on sustainability - for example, by always using the most suitable mode of transport."
The Global Logistics Operations Centre is moving under the roof of the Irish sales company in Kildare, south of Dublin. Founded in 1979, the Sales Centre now has 30 employees and focuses on serving customers in the life sciences and food industries. Since 2016, the Regional Support Center has been supporting a large number of sales companies with operational tasks and business processes from the same location; in 2020, the Human Resources Shared Services Center team was added, which manages learning activities in the global Endress+Hauser network from Ireland.
