ArcelorMittal and Ateliers 3S launch low carbon roof profile

by David Fleschen

ArcelorMittal, in collaboration with French construction company Ateliers 3S, has introduced "La Parisienne," a trapezoidal steel sheet roof profile designed to reduce carbon emissions by 67% during production.

The innovative product utilizes ArcelorMittal's Granite® Storm technology and is manufactured from XCarb® recycled and sustainably produced steel. This steel consists of at least 75% scrap metal and is melted in an electric arc furnace powered entirely by renewable energy. This process significantly lowers the carbon footprint compared to conventional blast furnace production methods. Additionally, Granite® Storm is free from hexavalent chromium and heavy metals. Its textured surface offers slip resistance and long-term durability, backed by a 30-year guarantee.

Available in six colors, "La Parisienne" provides architects and planners with a wide range of aesthetic options. Ateliers 3S is committed to ambitious environmental goals and plans to gradually transition its entire product line to ArcelorMittal's XCarb® steel.

Julien Faisandier, CEO of Ateliers 3S, stated, "We have reinvented a traditional formula for one of the most trusted products in our industry. From materials and coatings to design, we've refined every component to create a sustainable, high-performance, and aesthetically pleasing roofing solution that remains relevant for years to come. For us as a construction company, combining design, functionality, and climate protection is essential. Our long-standing partnership with ArcelorMittal enables us to offer 'La Parisienne' as a product with a very low carbon footprint while maintaining a competitive and visually appealing solution."

Patrick Le Pense, Marketing Director at ArcelorMittal Europe – Flat Products, added, "Seeing our CO2-reduced XCarb® technology being applied across diverse industries is a strong vote of confidence. The possibilities for modern and sustainable construction are already vast and continue to grow. 'La Parisienne' exemplifies how environmental protection and circular economy principles can be seamlessly integrated into construction projects."

Industry visitors to BAU in Munich can view a model of the "La Parisienne" trapezoidal sheet at booth B2.513 from January 13 to 17, 2025. Additionally, ArcelorMittal Europe will showcase its comprehensive range of products for the construction industry, including resource-efficient solutions and steel products with significantly reduced CO2 emissions, at booth B2.319.
